How band helps with Music theory class... a bit.
While non musician might find the first chapters of the music theory textbook to be difficult, people that play an instrument (especially piano) have a big advantage because the majority of the first few chapters are something they've been doing ever since they started playing their instrument. I personally have taken a semester of Music Theory as a junior, and the entire class was in the band or orchestra. As a result we got done with about 3 chapters in the first week with very little homework. I thought the class was an easy A, but if you're thinking about taking it in college as a "fun" class just note that the amount of homework increases to the level of an AP Clac class.
